Installation Guide for DAAV SASBE 1.060 on Windows Mobile
Attention
Currently, our DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer Basic Edition products target only the local market in Mainland China, thus the software only filters effectively text messages in Simplified Chinese. However, it does not affect your normal use of sms by installing our software even if the main language used in your text messages is not Simplified Chinese. Messages in English/French/German/else or even Traditional Chinese will most probably simply be let through, as with high possibility they will be computed to be legitimate.
If you are interested in a non-Simplified-Chinese anti-spam solution for mobile phones, please feel free to contact us and let us discuss and determine how to cooperate and proceed on a case by case basis.
This guide applies to the 1.06x versions, among which we have first publicly released version 1.062.
Installation
Step-by-step installation of the DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer Basic Edition on a Windows Mobile 6 Standard (aka WM6 SmartPhone) phone. The installation guide in Chinese takes Windows Mobile 6 Professional (aka WM6 PocketPC) as the example for illustration.
- Find the installer package (DAAV.PIA.SMS.Anti-Spammer.Basic.Edition.Release-1.062L-Build20100413Tue.CAB in this example) on your phone using the File Explorer. Note, if your phone is a Windows Mobile 5 SmartPhone, you need to get and install a 3rd-party File Explorer on your phone first.
- Click the big square button under the screen, the installation process begins.
- Terms of the license are shown. You can use up/down key to scroll the dialog window. Click "I Accept" to continue or "I decline" to quit.
- If continue, the phone system performs the installing task. You can see the progress bar.
- The installer shows you some post-installation reminder information. Use your phone keypad to scroll up/down. It reminds you that, if the system environment is not clean at the time of installation, say the system registry was messed up, the software may not immediately take effect after installation. Then it is recommended to reboot the device at this time.
- Normally everything should be OK, so we choose "No" to skip the reboot.
- Installation done.
Stop & Resume Message-Filtering
Compared with version 1.05x and earlier ones, version 1.06x has been built in a useful new functionality: the possibility for the Windows Mobile phone user to instruct the installed DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer to stop or resume filtering the incoming messages at any time.
Note: To stop filtering message is simply to send the installed program a request asking it to temporarily pause message-filtering, and has nothing to do with uninstallation of the software. In order to remove the program from the device, you need to follow the common steps of uninstalling a Windows Mobile application from a phone.
- To stop or resume message-filtering is done through program menus and shortcuts. Let's start from the home screen.
- Click the "Start" button and we get:
- Click "More" a number of times until you see the "Programs" folder:
- Enter the "Programs" folder and we see the shortcut folder named "DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer (Basic Edition)". You will say, wait... the name is different! Well yes, but it is due to the sreen size limitation of this phone. If you use ActiveSync on a PC to browse the directory in detailed view, you will find the full long name.
- Open this folder, you are given three shortcuts, each for a different purpose. Please note that the names of the first two shortcuts are both incomplete also due to the screen size limitation.
- The first shortcut is for the "About" information.
- The second shortcut should read "Resume Message-Filtering". If we click it now, we will get a warning because the DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer IS working now.
- But we can click the third shortcut to really tell the installed DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer: Please stop filtering incoming messages temporarily. And we get:
- Let's click the third shortcut again if we forget that we have just sent the request. Then we are told that the DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer is already in the state of taking a rest.
- OK, we are happy with the test and we now want to get the installed DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer back to work. We only need to click once the second shortcut. Voila!
Test - Sending a Legitimate SMS
Now let's send a simple "Hello there" sms to the phone with the installed DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer Basic Edition.
- Different from earlier versions, we do not show a screen of version information at the first receival of no matter a spam or a ham message since we can check the "About..." information through the mentioned shortcut provided in this version (look at Installation Guide for DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer Basic Edition Version 1.050 on Windows Mobile to see what is shown here in earlier versions). So we immediately see the new-message icon at the topleft corner of the screen. Also please notice that, the icons of the three shortcuts that we just clicked several times are shown in one of the upper trays.
- Open the message in Inbox, we have its content "Hello there" which is computed to be legitimate by our DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer Basic Edition installed just now.
Test - Sending a Spamming SMS
What if we now send a spamming sms to the phone? To demonstrate the effect, let us first have a look at the sms folder structure at this time. Going through the following menu:
- We have the screen snapshot of the sms folder structure captured and saved before the installation as follows:
Now we send to this phone a spamming message. The original message is a scam one in Simplified Chinese asking people to wire money directly to a given bank card number. We now send only the bank card number to this test phone since it is running Windows Mobile English and does not recognize or process properly Simplified Chinese characters. Guess what? The message is intercepted, correctly identified as spam, and put silently into a newly created "Spam" sms folder. The folder is exactly created by our software when it computes an incoming message to be spam and hence puts the message into this "Spam" folder.
- Enter the folder, we have its list view as follows:
- Open the filtered sms, we see its content - the scam bank card number. The sms folder name "Spam" is also shown in the window title bar.
Please note that the "Spam" sms folder is nothing different from other sms folders such as "Inbox" and "Outbox". You can use menus to move messages between "Spam" and "Inbox" in the same usual way, you can reply or forward messages in "Spam", etc. The only difference is that it is being taken special care of by the installed DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer Basic Edition software.
Test - To Stop & Resume Filtering Messages
We have the cool shortcuts now, right? Let's click the "Stop Filtering Messages" shortcut, and then send the same spamming message again. See what happened? We see the new-message icon all at once!
- The Inbox list view now shows the spamming message which was let through just now.
- Check its content:
You may try by yourself to resume message-filtering and send the same message again to see the stop/resume effect of our DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer product.
