FAQ
1. Q: Where can I download the DAAV Intelligent SMS Anti-Spammer
Beijing Olympic Edition?
A: There are two sub-versions: A-version and B-version. Except for how
warning or/and information windows are prompted to the phone user,
these two sub-versions funtion in the same way. Choose either
sub-version to install as you wish. You may check the documentation
file howitworks.* before making your choice. The download URL is "http://www.daav.cn/cms/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=1".
Attention: Getting the software, installing or using it implies that
you have accepted the User License Agreement of this software.

2. Q: Why this Olympic Edition is offered for free?
A: On the one hand, to celebreate the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games; on
the other hand, we have greatly benefit from the open software society
and all sorts of freewares, thus we are glad to make a free version to
repay the open software society and the mobile software society,
although this software is a commercial one.
3. Q: I find that the file size of the installation package shown in
the illustrated screenshot different from the size of my downloaded
file, why?
A: We have several different version internally tested and used, the
downloadable version is one among them. Despite the difference in file
size, the installation procedure is similar.
4. What is the percentage figure right to the warning string "Spam
Deteched!" after a spamming SMS is received?

A: It is the probability that the received message is spamming, which
we called Spam Index of the message. In short, the higher the Spam
Index of an SMS message is, the higher the probability of its being
spamming is. Combining this figure and the message content preview in
the bottom part of the prompted window, you can decide if you need to
check the "Spam" mail box immediately for further processing.
5. Q: Why some SMS messages are not filtered that I consider as
spamming?
A: First of all, this edition is derived by simplification from our
Personalized SMS Anti-Spammer without integrating the personalization
module. Thus, when computing whether an SMS message is spamming, the
software uses a preset general setting without taking your personal
preferences into consideration. Secondly, no software can arrives at a
correct rate of 100%, just like the weather forecast computed by
supercomputers has never been better than a probability value. At last,
we very welcome you to send back your experiences with this software
and any other feedback.
6. Q: Is the filtering strategy of the software strict or loose?
A: The standards of being strict or loose are quite different if you ask different people. While making computation based on solid theoretical foundation, our software tends to let through a message even when it appears spamming if it demonstrates some other "well-behaved" characteristic. The purpose is to lower the false decision rate so that a user won't miss really legitimate messages.
7. Q: Would you please say something more on the forementioned
Personalized SMS Anti-Spammer?
A: That is the commercial software that we are continuously working on.
To avoid confusion, we call it the Personalized Edition in contrast to
the Olympic Edition offered for free. In brief, the Personalized
Edition of our SMS Anti-Spammer software is capable of incrementally
adjust the filter-related technical settings to a status fitting your
personal interests and preferences the best.
8. Q: Is personalization important? What are the benefits of
personalization?
A: The key point is: everyone has her/his own criteria of being
spamming of an SMS message.
Let's make a simple example. Suppose you send a joke via sms to Alice
and Bob. Alice does not like the joke while Bob does enjoy it. Alice
may think it is a spamming SMS message while Bob may really like to
have more jokes alike. A one-setting-for-all SMS spam filter could not
make differentiated suggestion for Alice and Bob, and Personalized
Anti-Spammer fits in this gap perfectly by adjusting its setting
automatically according to Alice's and Bob's interests and preferences
on their respective mobile phones.
Here is another commonly seen situation. If you sign up as a member of
a whatever VIP cumstomer group of a chain store or a cinema, you will
then periodically get promotion SMS messages with high possibility from
those businesses. From the angle of the relationship between a business
and its registered customers, such SMS messages are fully legitimate.
However, if we look from the angle of message content, ladies normally
would appreciate those messages as they get more shopping information;
but gentlemen usually would become quite annoyed and full-heartedly
wish those messages could be screened as well. All in all, the best
solution is a filter residing on a phone that is capable of learning
the very interests and preferences of the phone owner, and making
decision accordingly on being spamming or not of incoming SMS messages.
This Olympic Edition has not been integrated the personalization
module, thus the built-in setting for decision-making on spam is of the
one-setting-for-all type. Thus, if its decision fits Alice's
preferences, it may well disatisfy Bob. You have been warned.
9. Q: Can I download the Personalized Edition of DAAV Intelligent SMS
Anti-Spammer too from your Website?
A: Please excuse that we do not yet provide this edition directly to
individual phone users. We do not have a plan to do so, either.
10. Q: I have installed an SMS management software on my phone, will it
conflict with this DAAV SMS Anti-Spammer Olympic Edition?
A: Confliction is possible. To be specific, it depends on the
installation order of those SMS softwares (to be accurate, the order of
invoking them by Windows Mobile) and how other SMS management software
manages the SMS messages. An SMS management software could choose to
pass on or delete an incoming SMS message. It is only when an SMS
management software choose to pass on an SMS message after processing
that other SMS softwares could co-exist with it without unexpected
situation or strange outcome happening. But sometimes deletion of
message is inevitable. For example, our filter will move an identified
spamming SMS message to the special "SPAM" mail box, therefor the
message won't passwd on to other SMS softwares. Thus, the best way to
avoid such confliction is to install only one such SMS filter software.
11. Q: Can I manually move an SMS message in the "SPAM" mail box back
into the "Inbox"?
A: Of course. The "SPAM" SMS mail box is no different from other SMS
mail boxes except it is created specially to hold the messages that are
identified to be spam by our Anti-Spammer software. To do such moving,
you first open the "SPAM" mailbox, hightlight the message to be moved,
and then click the "Move (M)..." entry in the menu.
12. Q: How can I send feedback to you?
A: DAAV's Website has a Tracker zone (http://www.daav.cn/cms/tiki-list_trackers.php)
where you can submit bug report, wish list, etc. You can browse the
information there anonymously, however, in order to submit any
contents, you have to sign up to be a CMS user of the Website.

13. Q: I'd like to send you SMS messages I collected, how to do that?
A: In the Tracker zone described above, you may find a topic entitled
"Volunteer SMS Submission" (http://www.daav.cn/cms/tiki-view_tracker.php?trackerId=3)
which was set up specifically for this purpose.
Attention: Your submission is sent without any condition. We will use
it in our R&D in any way that we like.
14. Q: Is there a forum for discussion on relative problems or
information?
A: You can do that in the forum zone (http://www.daav.cn/cms/tiki-forums.php)
of DAAV's Website. Similarly, only registered CMS users can post or
reply.

15. Q: Will I get response from your company after submitting a problem
or raising a question?
A: Due to the limitation of time and resources, we can't guarantee we
will make such a response to individual users, or after how long if we
plan to respond. Depending on the critical level of them, we will try
to address the problems or answer the questions ASAP. Thanks for your
comprehension.
16. Q: Is there a way for me to get updates about your products?
A: Of course. For the moment, you can already pay attention to what is
published on our Website, and some of the information on the Website
can be subscribed as RSS channels. In the future, we may set up mailing
lists of product announcements. Only list administrators can send
product announcements to those lists, and at a frequency of no more
than once every several months.
